I watched the Magnolia Network lost the kitchen Or flipped through the cookbook of the same name and wondered what Irene French made for a meatloaf recipe? Don’t be surprised anymore because the restaurateur prepared the dish with Barefoot Contessa Be my guest with Ina Garten.
Irene’s French meatloaf recipe is a classic touch
Similar to Garten’s meatloaf recipes, French meatloaf is a nod to the classic. The ingredient list has many things to expect in a meatloaf.
According to Internet Food, this French meatloaf recipe calls for ground beef and ground pork, two ingredients often found in the dish. Other standard ingredients on the menu are cheese, herbs and breadcrumbs.
There are also unexpected ingredients. French meatloaf is slightly different in that it uses shallots instead of yellow or red onions. She also added carrots, whole milk, and pecorino cheese. Also, she uses bread cubes (she suggests crunchy sourdough) instead of breadcrumbs.
So, while this Papa French Meatloaf recipe has all the nods to the classic, it’s also unique thanks to the subtle variations.
“The Lost Kitchen” star tops meatloaf with ketchup and mustard
Despite its ups and downs, what makes it to the top is just as classic as when it comes to meatloaf. Dad’s French Meatloaf is topped with ketchup and mustard sauce.
Once again, the Magnolia Network star deviates a bit from the classics with her choice of ingredients. Instead of using the standard yellow mustard, the French chose Dijon.
As for the rest of the garnishing ingredients, the cookbook author keeps it classic with plain ketchup and light brown sugar. As in traditional meatloaf recipes, you can combine all three ingredients and pour the mixture over the meatloaf.
How to make Irene French’s dad’s meatloaf
This Food Network rated this four-step French meatloaf recipe “easy.” To start, she preheated the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Meanwhile, put all meatloaf ingredients in a large bowl. This means that everything from ground beef, carrots, and leeks to eggs, salt, and pepper goes into the bowl.
Here’s where it gets messy. The French use her hands to mix it. And as I indicated in her recipe instructions, it’s important not to over-mix. Once everything is combined, divide the meatloaf mixture between two 9 by 5-inch trays and set aside.
Next comes the glazing. The French put light brown sugar in a bowl with ketchup and Dijon mustard and mix. This is the glazing done. Then she spreads the glaze on the surface of each loaf and puts it in the oven.
Once the meatloaf has been baked for 45 minutes, it’s time to take it out of the oven. The French suggest using a meat thermometer to see if it’s done. Leave the meatloaf in the pan for 10-15 minutes before slicing it.
