Lavender cultivation is one of the greatest traditions of Provence. However, the production has increased competition, because lavender proves to be less profitable than other flowers, such as the eternal flower. So some producers turned.

The Alpes-de-Haute-Provence plateau changes its appearance and confuses some tourists. “Compared to the past few years, there are fewer lavenders, and it is true that we can see expanses of eternity”, someone says. You also have to get used to its smell, close to the curry.

New perfume factories are on the rise, because the price of lavandin has fallen: from 35 to 12 euros per kilo. The immortal is still up to 500 euros. Terraroma producer Jean-Pierre Joubert is hoping for more stability and less fashion. “I’m worried about seeing all this immortal, because I know consumption, there will be overproduction, that’s clear”, trust. With regard to lavandin, the average annual consumption is between 1500 and 2000 tons, at most, determines the product. However, the current production will be between 3,000 and 3,500 tons.
