What is the trending pink sauce on TikTok?
TikTok always seems to have something new to say. Whether you’re rubbing frozen cucumbers all over your face, drinking “healthy Coca-Cola” or mixing up big bowls of cowboy caviar, it seems like every day someone is interested in a new trendy food trick. Today, everyone is talking about pink sauce. Learn all about the sauce, plus the best DIY cooking recipe on TikTok.
Who is behind this TikTok recipe?
A month ago, President Pii, 29, said she has around 800 followers on TikTok. Today, she has more than 142,000 people and her posts have been liked by 4 million people. “It’s a small company that moves very, very fast,” she said on TikTok. In addition to his sauce business, Chef Pii offers special seating, including a “mixology service” as well as catering for 50 or more people, according to the Flavor Crazy website.
The sauce became a sensation on TikTok after being shared by creator Chef Pii. This Miami-based chef first posted a video on June 11 in which he dunked fried chicken in the tangy pink sauce, and TikTok users caught fire. However, while the combination of sauce and chicken sounds tempting, the practices of creating, selling, and distributing the pink sauce are questionable — and TikTok users take note. According to the Pink Sauce website, this fluorescent condiment includes dragon fruit, honey, sunflower seed oil, cayenne pepper, and garlic. Previous nutrition labels also list Himalayan pink sea salt, as well as less than 2% lemon juice, milk, and citric acid.
Despite its creamy appearance, the sauce is a little weaker than most. In many Chef Pi videos, the sauce is liberally applied to fried chicken or burgers, but it glides easily over the sides of the food and onto the consumer’s fingers.
Why has pink sauce become so popular?
While the ingredients for the sauce seem simple enough, the way it is made remains a mystery to many, including the color of the pink sauce, which constantly changes over time. In the original video, the sauce has a darker purple color and appears to have a thicker consistency, similar to ranch sauce. Eight days later, the sauce is a little thinner when poured over the taco in a video, but it’s still the same thick consistency as the original sauce. After another five days, the sauce seems to have a much lighter pink color and that watery consistency. Currently, the color of the sauce is closer to salmon, it is sprinkled with spices and easily flows over the food.
Even though Chef Pii tried to fix the color changing issue by saying “the color didn’t change, just the lighting”, users are still obsessed with the fact that the color and texture of the sauce don’t change. They do not appear to be identical. And although the color of the sauce is advertised as coming from dragon fruit, users are speculating that the pink color may not come from the fruit but from the coloring, which doesn’t appear to be in the ingredients list.
