Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro: Google improves its recipe

After making it official last May at the Google I/O conference with the Pixel Watch, Google today launches its new Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro phones which are now available for pre-order. There isn’t much of an aesthetic revolution compared to the new design introduced last year with the Pixel 6. On the other hand, Google has emphasized a more luxurious look, using recycled aluminum for the frame and the bar that houses the rear camera. New colors are introduced: Snowy, Black, Volcanic and Lime Green for the Pixel 7; Snow, volcanic black, and sage green for Pixel 7 Pro. The Pixel Watch, Google’s first connected watch, will be the perfect companion for Android smartphones with specific interactions such as the ability to control the Pixel 7’s camera from your wrist.

The return of facial recognition feature for the Pixel 7

At the heart of these two smartphones is the new Tensor G2 processor that improves processing of machine learning tasks by 60%, benefiting voice recognition as well as images and video. The high-resolution zoom has been improved, the Night Vision mode is twice as fast, the display of faces is clearer and videographers can play with the Cinematic Blur option.

We also welcome the return of the facial recognition feature to unlock the smartphone, as well as the fingerprint reader integrated under the screen. For the record, facial biometrics were introduced with the Pixel 4 before it was shelved. A hands-free device that we really appreciate.
